Summertime Recipes

Maryland is getting that hazy, hot and humid feeling that is such a familiar part of summer here. So how about some healthy refreshing recipes! I haven't tried these yet, but they sound perfect for days like we're having now!

Healthy Melon Slushie

5 ice cubes, slightly crushed
4 cups of cubed ripe cantaloupe
1/4 cup of fresh orange juice
add the juice of one lime, just for kicks

Blend together and pour into glasses.

Banana Soft Serve

Take 2-3 frozen bananas and toss them into a food processor. Let it process for about five minutes, stopping every so often to scrape down the sides. As each minute passes, the bananas will get light, fluffy and take on a creamy texture--sort of like soft serve!

Optional: sprinkling a bit of cinnamon on top or dust with cocoa powder

Spicy Watermelon

Watermelon is a good source of lycopene, which is an important antioxidant that may help reduce your risk for heart disease and certain cancers. Adding a little dash of red pepper/cayenne pepper to your melon could also help boost your metabolism.

Who is brave enough to try this! I'm so curious!
