Raw Food

I have been intrigued by the raw food movement over the past couple of years. Today in the Post Express Fit section there was a story on eating raw.

Tania Mercer is a DC based certified living foods chef who runs a health counseling service (nourishingyou.com) and she maintains that raw foods allow us to eat the way nature intended. She maintains that by eating this way you will feel differently, you'll have increased energy, and you'll lose more weight. Mercer explains that when you leave your food untouched you preserve the digestive enzymes that occur in the food which aids digestion. As a bonus a raw food diet contributes to a glowing complexion.

The article mentions that eating raw does not have to be difficult or blah. Sushi and Smoothies are raw food staples. Tania Mercer says that the average person does not need to follow a strictly raw diet to gain the benefits. Try going 50 percent raw - two salads per day and two servings of fruit at breakfast and you will be doing really well.

If you are not into eating raw meat (e-coli dangers) try nuts, seeds, buckwheat, wild rice, and quinoa (yum!) which serve as raw protein sources. Those who do eat raw meat stick to sushi or carpaccio.

I am not an advocate of fad dieting - but incorporating raw food into our fuel options supports the healthy fit principles that we have been discussing - Fuel vs. Posion, Anything is Better than Nothing, and Grazing.

This may or may not be for you - but I think part of living an abundant healthy and fit life is to educate yourself about nutrition.

Have a salad and some fresh fruit today!

Love,
Tee

  2. This is great, Tee. And I'm with San with summertime - this is the easiest time to put more focus on eating 'in the raw.' :-D
